Dana Watson: Watson is an alumni of Michigan State University where she studied interpersonal and organizational communication.
Chuck Grigsby: Chuck Grigsby also believes that a better relationship with the MSU community can really benefit both the East Lansing and MSU community and strengthen the ties between the two. He wants the voices of everyone in the community to be heard which includes the MSU student body and wants to make sure they too are involved in the matters of the city council. Ultimately he wants to increase the overall relationship the students have with city council members and wants them to be heard on important issues that may affect them in the long run.
Daniel Bollman: One of Daniel Bollman’s main points is to “strengthen the relationship with Michigan State University”. He wants more students and faculty from MSU on the East Lansing committee. Bollman believes people at MSU bring their knowledge about the university based on their field of study. Bollman knows that East Lansing has a certain dependence on the university and wants them to be more involved with the city of East Lansing. He also understands that MSU has views they can “bring to [East Lansing]” and views the city can give to MSU.
Adam DeLay: Adam DeLay is a former MSU student who graduated with a double major in Journalism, policy and social relations. He thinks that the city council’s relationship with MSU is important because he sees the students as East Lansing residents who have voices that he thinks deserve to be heard, especially when issues present themselves like any other East Lansing resident would do.
George Brookover: Brookover has had qualms with Michigan State University in the past, he went on record in a 2014 lawsuit about sexual assault saying that MSU hasn’t caught up to the sanctions they are imposing.
Ron Bacon: He said that the increased communication between MSU and the city of East Lansing during COVID was good for both communities and that he would like to continue with that open communication between the two entities. He overall would like to expand the relationship between MSU and the city of East Lansing and ensure that they continue grow together in the future. He wants to ensure that East Lansing is attractive for both the city and MSU and that he wants to attract more business to the city and believes working with MSU can help with that.
Mikey Manuel: As one of the youngest candidates in the running, Manuel would have a unique insight into what issues students find most important. Manuel has emphasized the role that MSU student’s play in the economic growth of East Lansing. He looks forward to strengthening the relationship between East Lansing and MSU, and says that it is important that students are given opportunities to participate fully in the community.
