Why are you running for East Lansing City Council?

To represent myself and the many others who want to see a change in politics. To run as a business owner and not a politician and to advocate for more non-politicians to run for these type of seats (police officers, teachers, STUDENTS) To be a platform, not only to other small business owners, to any East Lansing resident who wants to be involved in the process of a rapidly growing city.

What are your main policy goals if elected to East Lansing City Council?

Full government transparency, there should be no such thing as information received by the council that is not made immediately accessible to the public. We are a democracy and need to be run like one, transparency equals accountability.

In terms of a physical change I want to see in our city, I’d like to float the idea of free parking at the meters after 5 P.M. We, undoubtedly, lose business for our downtown venues because people don’t want to pay for parking when they go out to dinner or when they go for a quick shopping trip. It would mean less money for our city but less money for our city is a good tradeoff when it means real revenue for our local businesses.

What makes you stand out from the other candidates running?

My age, I am young and I am informed. I not only plan on having more of a personal role in our community but also playing a role in being a voice for the new generation coming in. I’ve voted for members of both major parties and will continue to advocate the eradication of blind part loyalty.

How would you improve the city’s relationship with Michigan State University?

I love the current relationship East Lansing has with MSU but relations can always be improved. It’s important to remember the role students play in our cities' economic growth. And it’s important that our city not be looked at as an opportunity to take advantage of students but a city that gives students opportunities.

How do you plan on involving residents in East Lansing to build a better community?

We’ve been lucky in East Lansing, a city flooded with citizens who like to get involved. There are, without question, plenty of problems and concerns facing our city. As concerning as those problems are, it’s not the height of our problems that concerns me, it’s the lowness of how we handle them. I take great solace in knowing there are still plenty of East Lansing residents ready and willing to get involved. I enjoy the creative process and I would look forward to discovering creative ways to fund city initiatives and projects, discovering ways to save money and reinvest in the projects are residents actually care about, rather it be through forming and ideas committee, reviewing data and successes from other cities, or just generally working together, side by side, with the people of East Lansing.
